Catholic Health Care in Denver

Catholic Health Care in Denver

If you’re seeking ways to stay active and healthy in Denver, Catholic senior care is worth a look. More than half a million Catholics call northern Colorado home, and the region’s Catholic care groups help them and the wider community with senior services for aging in place, assisted living, and skilled nursing. Denver is also home to Catholic-affiliated hospitals with specialty programs for cutting-edge heart, stroke, and joint care.

Catholic senior support services in Denver

Catholic Charities of Denver offers a suite of helpful services for seniors age 55 and older. The group also works with family members of seniors to help coordinate long-distance care oversight, and help is available in Spanish upon request. Staffers can help seniors apply for and understand the benefits they’re entitled to, such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. Staff members can also refer clients for healthcare, financial assistance, counseling, and in-home care in Denver.

For seniors and families who need help quickly, Catholic Charities hosts free clinics that cover the basics of case management: benefits, insurance assistance, health consultations, and other key components of a comprehensive care plan.

Free lunch and fitness classes for Denver seniors

The Mulroy Center in Denver’s West Colfax neighborhood is another Catholic Charities project. The center is open Monday through Thursday for morning exercise classes, games, and social time. Visitors age 55 and older can enjoy lunch and get help with case management issues. All services, including transportation to and from the center, are free.

A comprehensive assisted-living and healthcare network

Two of the largest healthcare providers in the region, Catholic Health Initiatives, and Adventist Health System, jointly run the Centura network of hospitals, clinics, and assisted-living facilities across the Front Range. In Denver, Centura operates three Senior Health First primary-care clinics staffed with doctors and nurses trained to meet the needs of older patients, provide memory evaluations, and coordinate care. The clinics are based at the St. Anthony Medical Campus, St. Anthony North Hospital, and the Gardens at St. Elizabeth assisted living home.

The Gardens at St. Elizabeth is one of three Denver assisted living communities run by Centura, along with Porter Place Retirement Community and the Villas at Sunny Acres. All 3 facilities offer a continuum of care, including independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and dementia care. Respite care is available at the Gardens at St. Elizabeth and at the Villas at Sunny Acres as well.

Leading edge medical care in Denver

Centura also operates Denver hospitals that offer top of the line treatment for health issues that seniors often face. St. Anthony Hospital in the suburb of Lakewood prides itself on quick treatment times for heart attack patients. St. Anthony’s Comprehensive Stroke Center is staffed around the clock with specialists to diagnose, treat, and rehabilitate stroke patients using the latest and best protocols.

Adjacent to St. Anthony, Centura’s OrthoColorado Hospital serves the entire state with joint repair and replacement surgeries, spinal care, and pain management. The hospital is known for performing anterior-approach hip replacements that reduce muscle damage and increase joint stability. OrthoColorado earned a top-percentile national ranking from Consumer Reports magazine in 2013.

Whether you need a ride to the senior center for your exercise class or surgery to restore mobility, Denver’s Catholic care services can help you move forward.
